Friday morning at the end of the dog days of summer in Lilli’s 3rd floor apartment in South Philly. Pants optional in the kitchen. Wooten sleepily wanders into the kitchen when he hears/smells that there is coffee on and drapes himself around Lilli as she tries to do the dishes. Joe sits salty and patient, also waiting for the coffee. Three steaming mugs of coffee later, a mate slurp or two, and we are all ready to think about breakfast.

Lilli goes to the kitchen and I follow feeling like little/big sister. She pulls out four slicees of whole wheat bread and a tub of the best honey I have ever eaten (brought back from Quebec along with a rocking chair and a desk made from an old piano). She slaps peanut butter on the bread and droozles honey on top of the peanut butter. Just as she is about to carry the plate of sandwiches out to the dining room, she stops and ponders.

“Fried peanut butter and honey sandwiches…?”

I am dubious but she is bold. A splash of sesame oil in the bottom of a frying pan and few short minutes later we have ooey-gooey fried peanut butter and honey sandwiches for breakfast.

Yup. Its summertime.
